Mitch Doherty joins as Boys Technical Director

UWANFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Mitch Doherty to the role of Boys Technical Director to predominately oversee the development of the junior boys strategy, culture and programs (including Academy, Development, and Recreational streams). We would also like to thank Dan Evans for his work in the role in 2023, and are excited for his continued involvement in the club as part of the State League Men’s setup.

Mitch’s first class resume speaks for itself and includes roles as:

-        Australian national representative youth team assistant coach

-        Head of Manchester United FC’s West Australian talent, and identification program

-        Football West, OYSA (Oregon, USA) and MYSA (Massachusetts, USA) coach instructor

-        Head coach for Massachusetts Youth Soccer ODP (Olympic Development Program)

-        Director of Coaching, Strikers United Academy, and ABYS youth soccer club

-        Head coach for the Boston Breakers Women’s College team (WPSL)

Mitch has enjoyed a lifelong dedication to sport, spearheaded by an intense passion for football, having travelled and played and / or coached extensively throughout Europe, Oceania, and the United States of America which given him the opportunity to learn from different cultures and approaches to the game of football. Mitch’s passion is driven by a desire to improve and develop facets of the game, through coaching, administration, collective processes, educational workshops, collaborations, and the harnessing of resources.

Mark Reid, Head of Men’s and Boys Performance Football, commented that “It was clear in our first meeting that Mitch’s values and the values of UWA Nedlands FC were completely aligned. Providing a fun, challenging and safe environment for kids to develop and learn, building resilience and confidence both on and off the pitch and knowing the players as individuals and focusing on their strengths were all at the heart of Mitch’s coaching philosophy. The one key measure of success being the players enjoyed the year and want to come back next season.

We are delighted Mitch has chosen to join UWANFC as we, together, look forward to building an academy and performance culture that helps players develop life skills in and out of football.”.

Mitch commented, “After meeting Mark in the UK recently, and after speaking with several coaches in WA, I felt that the opportunity to be involved at UWA Nedlands would be a great fit and the right challenge for me to embrace. Mark outlined the project and key goals the UWANFC Committee are setting out for the club, and it all matched perfectly with my own ambitions for helping to foster a club culture and an appropriate development platform for youth players to grown and learn”.

Mitch is currently overseas taking some downtime with his wife Karen and will commence in the role in the week starting November 20th.
