The time has almost come to kick-off the 2021 season. It is promising to be a cracker of a season in which we'll see over 1,500 members take to the field each weekend. We have added additional teams across almost every section of the Club. Our Joey Soccer Program is seeing a great take up again as we will be exceeding the 900 player mark in the 4-7 age category.

In 2021 our youngest player will be four years old playing with one of the Kindy teams, whereas our most senior member will still be running around at 66 with one of our masters' teams. It shows what a great breadth of age and ability we have at our Club.

We invite all to come along and celebrate the start of the 2021 Season with us this Saturday, 03 April, at UWA Sports Park. Our Social Committee is pulling out all the stops with activities and live music to keep young and old entertained. More details can be found further down in this newsletter.

Women’s Night Series

Our State League Division 1 Women had a successful 2021 Night Series Campaign reaching all the way to the final. Despite a valiant effort, they were unable to get the better of South West Phoenix. Over the four games played, they scored a total of 23 goals showing promising signs for the season ahead.

Men’s Night Series

Our Men State League bowed out in the semi-final of the 2021 Night Series against Olympic Kingsway. This marked the end of a successful 2021 Night Series campaign that started with a thriller against Dianella White Eagles, where they managed to secure a 3-2 win in the closing minutes of the game after going down 2-0. A goal-laden match up with Curtin University saw them put seven past the Curtin goalkeeper, followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat against Fremantle in the group stage's final round.

Forrestfield proved to be no match going down 4-1 to the boys in green in the Quarter Final, after which Kingsway managed to take the win in the Semi-Final.

2021 Golf Day

Young and old gathered on Sunday for the first UWA Nedlands FC golf day. Everyone was happy to get onto the greens despite the early 9 am start and trade the club colours and studs for some colourful golfing attire and clubs.

The play proceeded in various forms: Ambrose, where two people team up and use the better shot and classic solo play, where everyone could show that it was worth stealing themselves away from home every Sunday. The players rounded off the morning with open mini-golf and driving ranges. Around midday, our heroes made it back to the clubhouse for some bevies and bites and to tally up their green feats. The first place was taken by Sven, leaving the runner up behind by three shots. The wooden spoon went to Malcolm, who blamed corruption for his performance. In the end, everyone had fun o' plenty and went home motivated to come back next year.

2021 Season Opener

Saturday 3 April will see us officially kick off the 2021 season with our State League Men taking on Fremantle City at the Mack. It promises to be a close match up with only one goal separating the sides in the two previous encounters. We have food and entertainment for young and old during the day, so make sure you come down to what is sure to be a fun-filled day.

The games:

1. 18s: 11:00 am Kick-Off

2. Reserves: 1:00 pm Kick-Off

3. First Team: 3:00 pm Kick-Off

11:00-3:00

1. Mini pitches will be set up for junior players to play on

2. There will be a bouncy castle

3. Fun junior competitions before the game and during halftime up until 2:00

3:00 - 5:00 

Live music: Cosmic Ostrich, Mr Widdy, Anna and Cass

The bar/clubrooms will be open for business the entire day, including selling shorts and socks, and there will be food trucks to provide sustenance. The weather forecast is looking great, and the management committee can't wait to see everyone down to support our teams and have fun.

Dear Members

Here we are finally at the beginning of a new exciting football season, after months of hard work by everyone, board staff, technical team and volunteers.

Starting from the mini-roos up to the first men's and women's teams, we have set up an excellent number of teams and allocated many coaches. Many of them are university students. Our 2021 coaching education got off to a great start involving more than 25 coaches.

Our senior state league men and women teams started the 2021 season very well, reaching the semi-final and final of the night series competition, an excellent result for our club and the coaches involved.

In the last month, the MSL teams have started the strength and conditioning program in collaboration with UWA, thanks to Joe Gonzalez and Hanani's tremendous support, our Conditioning Coach.

I must say that the road ahead is still long, but at the same time, we are aligned with the objectives we set ourselves at the start of our journey. Our focus is to become a leading club in player development, and we continue to make great inroads.

I wish all our teams a successful and fun season.

Game Development Program (Skills Acquisition)

We will be offering a new program unique to UWANFC in Term 2 and 3 for all players Aged 5-12 years old.

The Game Development Program (GDP) replaces and builds on our successful Skills Acquisition Program. Our Director of Football, Domenico Gangemi, has developed the program which supplements our Joey and MiniRoos programs.

Kids will be working on their dribbling, shooting, passing, and other fundamental skills while playing fun and engaging small-sided games. The program is designed to teach kids skills an understanding of football within a game context. It is the perfect way for kids of all abilities and experience to develop their skills, game understanding and, most importantly, build their confidence.

The GDP program is ideal for Joey Soccer and MiniRoos players.

The Programs will run at the following times;

 GDP Term 2 Details:

· Term 2 Program commences Friday 23 April - Friday 25 June (10 weeks)

· All children ages 5 - 12 are welcome

· Cost: $170

· FRIDAYS 5:00 - 6:00 pm at UWA Sports Park

We are calling all budding photographers to send their footage this season, capturing the game day magic both on-field and off-field. These can be action shots from the game, team photo’s or photo’s that capture the off-field atmosphere at the Club House. Prizes will be awarded each month in this newsletter for the following categories:
